St. Johns Independent

With the publication of the December 29, 2023 issue the St. Johns Independent closed out the 25th year of its publication. The concept was developed in July of 1998 by Rhona Dedyne and Jean Martin. Eventually local photo enthusiast, the late Barry Bauer, join the staff. Most recently Maralyn Fink has been the local face of the SJ Indy.

We've had a good run as we grew with the Internet and the World Wide Web. In the early days the Indy was posted via dial-up internet connection. Over the years it has been published every Thursday evening from hotels and internet hot spots from places as diverse as from Danvers MA to Trinity FL and from Seattle WA to San Francisco CA, and of course from innumerable places in and around Michigan.

Today most of the newsmakers in the St. Johns community have websites of their own, and other media outlets have taken over the dissemination of local news. Now we will refer you to many of the local websites where you may check for the latest updates. We want to thank all of our readers for their interest in their community.

Now for the first time in 25 years Thursday will no longer be production day. It will finally become just another day in the week for the staff and editor of the St. Johns Independent.

Within a few days we will provide you with archived content and a directory of some of our many contributors.
